BMW and its BMW Motorrad brand, which is one of the biggest buyers of motorcycle parts, announced Thursday a partnership with the British motorcycle stand manufacturer BMC Motorcycles, which has been the biggest customer of BMW motorcycles for decades.
The two companies will work together to bring together the two brands’ motorcycle parts into a single brand, said BMW spokesman Peter Leeson.
This new partnership is a result of our common desire to provide our customers with the best motorcycle parts possible and to help them achieve the highest quality.
Motorcycle prices have risen rapidly over the past decade, as the cost of parts for new bikes has fallen by 80% over that time, which means that people who bought a new bike are paying more than they did before, according to the BMW Motorcycles.
But as demand for the motorcycles has risen in the past couple of years, they’ve also seen a decline in sales.
The company, which employs more than 6,000 people in the UK and more than 5,000 in Germany, is committed to supporting motorcycle manufacturers and providing them with the support and equipment necessary to create the motorcycles that they want to sell.
“As we know, people value their motorcycles and want to have a bike that is in the best condition possible, but we’ve also had to constantly adapt to the changing world of modern motorcycles,” said Leeson, adding that the new partnership with BMC will help keep the company on track to meet the growing demand for motorcycles.
Bike makers BMW and Harley-Davidson have been the largest motorcycle buyers of parts since BMW bought the brand in 2006, but in recent years demand has been waning.
Harley- Davidson’s share of the British market fell to 9.7% in 2013 from 11.5% a year earlier, while BMW’s share rose to 11.1% from 10.8% in the previous year.
The two companies share of total sales fell to 11% in 2014 from 12.9% in 2011, and Harley’s share fell to 6.5%.
The companies are in talks to expand the motorcycle business further in the coming years, including a partnership to sell the bike parts to other manufacturers.
In addition to selling BMW motorcycles, BMC also sells parts for Ducati, Kawasaki, and other motorcycle makers.
