NEW YORK — The Honda CRV has been getting some love this week, with some brands announcing it as a great option for those looking for a more affordable alternative to a BMW.
The new name is “Cr-V”, after the company’s name.
It’s a clever move by Honda, which has been struggling to find the right name for its new sports-oriented compact sedan, the first to feature the company-branded name.
The CR-CV is Honda’s entry-level sport-touring car, aimed at young and affluent customers who want a smaller, lighter vehicle with more street cred.
It will go on sale this fall in the U.S. and Japan.
Honda was originally planning to release the CR-VS in the summer of 2019, but the timing didn’t work out and the car won’t launch until later in the year.
Its new name and price point is a bit of a surprise to some.
“Honda really has been trying to move away from BMW’s ‘crude’ approach to luxury and toward more aggressive styling,” said Joe DiMaggio, a partner at Kelley Blue Book and a motorcycle dealer in New York.
For some, it seems that the new name, a play on the word “crude”, is a jab at BMW’s reputation as an industry leader for styling and engineering.
We’ll just say it: This is a bold move.
There are two big changes on the CRV.
The biggest is that it has a new, bigger engine.
You see, the original CR-Vs only offered a 1.0-liter turbocharged inline-four, which is the same engine as the 1.6-liter engine found in the 1,200-horsepower CR-X.
Now, with the new engine, the CR is getting a 1,400-horsefoot turbocharged V6, which makes it a much more powerful, torque-rich engine.
The new engine is not quite as powerful as the original one, but it’s still enough to power the new CR-CX, which comes with a 1-liter 4-cylinder engine.
Its price, though, is still around $30,000.
The CR-RX, the company ‘s smallest sedan, has the same 2.5-liter, turbocharged four-cyline engine, which can be found in some of its bigger sport sedans.
In the case of the CR, the price has been pushed up to $30k, so the CR will go for about $36,000 at launch.
If you’re a fan of the original car, the new one is going to be more affordable and will be a big hit.
The new engine will get you about 300 horsepower and about 400 lb.-ft. of torque, which will make the CR more powerful and fun to drive.
It’s a big step up from the original engine, and it is available in both two- and four-wheel drive versions.
The two-wheeler CR-EV will start at $37,995, while the four-wheel CR-H will go from $47,950.
